JS Kabylie claim group phase spot
06-10-2011
Algerian giants, JS Kabylie became the first to reach the group phase of the 2011 Orange CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-0 victory ASC Jaraaf of Senegal on Friday in Tizi Ouzou.
Late strikes from defender Chemseddine Nessakh and midfielder Saad Tedjar ensured the Canaries marched on 3-1 on aggregate.
JS Kabylie, African champions in 1981 and 1990 were given a stern test by their visitors, and had to wait till the closing stages to break through.
After a barren first half, the Algerians consistently raided the ASC Jaraaf defence and it was only a matter of time that they would score.
On 80 minutes, Nessakh scored the opener to send the fans at the November 1, 1954 Stadium into a party mood.
Ten minutes later, Tedjar who earlier came in for Nabil Yaalaoui sealed victory with the second goal.
JS Kabylie will play in Group B alongside Zesco United/MAS, Ittihad/Sunshine Stars and Simba/Motema Pembe.
