FLAMES (18-18-5) at BRUINS (25-10-1)

LAST 10: Calgary 4-4-2, Boston 8-2-0

Team Scope:

Flames : Despite dropping games to the Islanders, Senators and Predators, the Flames went into their road match with the Capitals on Tuesday unfazed, confident that they had risen to the quality of their opponents only a week before, beating the Wild, Red Wings and Canucks in succession.

That started to evaporate 36 seconds into the game when Rene Bourque was called for a holding penalty when he wrapped himself around Dennis Wideman. Alex Ovechkin made the Flames pay 35 seconds after that with a power-play goal, giving the Caps an early lead they never relinquished en route to a 3-1 win.

"I know," he said in the Calgary Herald. "It felt like I was stuck on the boards. Even though it looked like I was holding him, I couldn't really move because my arm was on the other side of him . . . but, yeah, it's a back-breaker. They score right away."

Things didn't get much better for Bourque later in the game, as he caught Nicklas Backstrom with an open-ice elbow to the head, for which Bourque received a five-game suspension from the NHL.

Bruins : All streaks end sometime, and even the Bruins lose once in a while. The difference between them and most teams these days is that they bounce back quickly, steamrolling the Devils 6-1 in Newark on Wednesday. After the Devils got off to a start, the B's pounced quickly and never let up.

"I think that's part of what we went through last year," coach Claude Julien said. "When you're in the playoffs you don't have a choice, you have to have a killer instinct every night, and we definitely built on that and carried it into this year. We understand that you can't let your guard down in this League."

Who's Hot: Jarome Iginla and Olli Jokinen are tied for the team lead in points, and while Jokinen has tapered off a bit the last few games. Iginla's production is steady at six points in his last six games. His next goal will be his 500th. Curtis Glencross has two goals and an assist in his last three games. … David Krejci extended his points streak to six games with a goal and an assist on Wednesday, while Patrice Bergeron's two goals give him six points in his last five games.

Injury Report: For Calgary, Alex Tanguay (upper body) is still day-to-day while Matt Stajan (ankle) and David Moss (foot) remain out indefinitely. Mark Giordano (hamstring) hopes to start skating soon, while goalie Henrik Karlsson (knee) and Derek Smith (ankle) are looking at February returns at the earliest. … The Bruins attribute much of their depth to health and outside of Marc Savard's season-ending concussion problems, they're not missing anyone.

Stat Pack: The Flames have lost 155 man-games to injury going into Tuesday's action, leading the Western Conference. Only the Penguins (195) and Canadiens (191) have suffered more. … No Bruins player on the active roster has a negative plus/minus rating and five Bruins are in the NHL's top ten, including Tyler Seguin (plus-28) and Brad Marchand (plus-26) at first and second in the League.

Puck Drop: One trait the Bruins have showed all season has been the ability to put away opponents -- as they did Wednesday against New Jersey, when three third-period goals turned a 3-1 game into a rout.

Said Bergeron: "I think this year we're doing a really good job of finding ways to get the big goal, that third goal when you're up 2-1, finding ways to keep going at them instead of just being satisfied with a lead, and that's the biggest thing so far."

JETS (19-15-5) at MAPLE LEAFS (19-15-5)

LAST 10: Winnipeg 6-3-1; Toronto 4-4-2.

Team Scope:

Jets : After going 10-3-1 in December while playing 12 of 14 games at the cozy MTS Centre, the Jets looked nothing like the team that was coming off the best month in franchise history when they hit the road in Montreal on Wednesday night. They trailed just 3-2 after two periods before Montreal scored four times in the third period to turn the game into a 7-3 rout that left coach Claude Noel wondering what happened.

We didn't play with the same heart, determination, passion or the same fire that you played with the whole month before," Noel said. "You can't fake this thing."

Maple Leafs : Jonas Gustavsson was the beneficiary of the Leafs' offensive outburst against Tampa Bay. By winning, he's earned the chance to start against the Jets -- meaning that starter James Reimer will sit for a second straight game.

"Right now, I think the Monster gives us as good a chance to win (as James Reimer does)," coach Ron Wilson said after Leafs' practice on Wednesday.

"As long as he is winning, he is going to keep playing. If Reims goes in there and he gets hot, he is going to play. We need to win games."

Reimer is 3-4-3 since returning from a head injury. Gustavsson has split four games in that span -- but he's 7-3-0 in his last 10.

Who's Hot: Winnipeg's Blake Wheeler has four goals and five assists during a six-game points streak. … Joffrey Lupul has seven points in his last five games, including a four-point night against Tampa Bay.

Injury Report: Winnipeg is without defensemen Randy Jones (upper body), Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) and Derek Meech (lower body), as well as forwards Jim Slater (undisclosed) and Bryan Little (foot). … Toronto is also short several regulars, including forward Tyler Bozak (shoulder), forward Colby Armstrong and defenseman John-Michael Liles (concussion), forward Mike Brown (back) and defenseman Mike Komisarek (arm). The Leafs also placed forward Colton Orr on waivers.

Stat Pack: One area in which the Leafs continue to struggle is penalty-killing. They enter Thursday's games last in the NHL at 73.2 percent. They were also last in the League in 2010-11 and have been in the bottom five every season since 2006-07.

Puck Drop: The Leafs spent part of their Wednesday outdoors -- they held practice in front of 3,000 fans at Sunnydale Acres Park in Rexdale, Ont.

"Anytime you get to come out and practice outdoors it's pretty special," captain Dion Phaneuf said. "We enjoyed the day, I think it was great the support we had and it shows what kind of fans we've got and we have the best fans in the league. To come out on a day when it's minus-15 and have this many people out is pretty special to practice in front of."

PANTHERS (20-12-7) at RANGERS (24-9-4)

Last 10: Florida 4-4-2; New York 7-3-0

Team Scope:

Panthers: Save for their amazing run to the Stanley Cup Final in 1996, there hasn't been much to get excited about in Southern Florida over the 17 seasons the Panthers have been in the NHL. But it appears as if rookie coach Kevin Dineen has Florida poised for a run at the first division title in franchise history, as its 47 points is good for a three-point cushion over the Southeast Division's second-place Washington Capitals.

While the current Cats roster is relatively young, they did get some much-needed veteran leadership on Wednesday when general manager Dale Tallon announced a one-year contract for three-time Stanley Cup champion forward John Madden.

"John is a veteran player who brings to our team a wealth of playing experience having won two Stanley Cups with New Jersey and one with Chicago," Tallon told floridapanthers.com at Wednesday's press conference. "He is a hard-working and responsible forward who plays well at both ends of the ice and is excellent on faceoffs."

Rangers: With the season finale of HBO's "24/7: Flyers-Rangers Road to the Winter Classic" set for Thursday, the viewing public has gotten a great glimpse into what it takes to be one of the best teams in the League. But now that the behind-the-scenes cameras have stopped rolling, the Rangers should continue putting on one of the greatest shows on ice.

If New York can get a similar effort to what it displayed at the Winter Classic, then the Panthers will have a very formidable foe Thursday. The Blueshirts played a physical affair, highlighted with gritty defensive work and superb goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist, including a penalty-shot save on Danny Briere with just under 20 seconds left in regulation.

"The whole game was exciting," Lundqvist told MSG Network after the game. "The end was pretty intense, but it was great. I just tried to be patient (with Briere) and it worked out."

Who's Hot: Panthers forward Tomas Fleischmann has 3 goals over his last three games. … Rangers captain Ryan Callahan is in the midst of a five-game points streak with 1 goal and 5 assists over that span.

Injury Report: The Panthers have been battling the injury bug all season long and currently have six players on IR. Scottie Upshall (upper body), Marcel Goc (concussion-like symptoms), Jack Skille (shoulder), Sean Bergenheim (lower body), Mikael Samuelsson (back) and Marco Sturm (head) are all out. … For the Rangers, defensemen Michael Sauer (concussion) and Steve Eminger (shoulder) remain out. Defenseman Marc Staal (concussion) made his season debut at the Winter Classic, while forward Wojtek Wolski (sports hernia surgery) is ready to return to game action as soon as coach John Tortorella makes the final call.

Stat Pack: The Rangers set a Winter Classic record with 50 hits Monday and tied the Winter Classic record with 20 blocked shots.

Puck Drop: It's always good news when a team hears they have a previously injured player set to return to the lineup, but sometimes it's best to maintain the status quo. This was exactly the stance Tortorella is taking with Wolski.

"I'm not looking to change the lineup right now … if I had to (Wolski) would probably be ready to go, but to be fair I like what is going on with our team right now and he's going to have to wait his turn," Tortorella told BlueShirtsUnited.com on Wednesday.

BLACKHAWKS (24-11-4) at FLYERS (22-11-4)

Last 10: Chicago 7-3-0; Philadelphia 5-4-1

Team Scope:

Blackhawks: With their power play slumping, coach Joel Quenneville decided to shake up his top-two units, shifting Patrick Kane off the top group to the second unit. Tuesday he lined up with Dave Bolland and rookie Jimmy Hayes up front, with Nick Leddy and Brent Seabrook on the points.

With just one extra-man goal in their last 22 chances over the previous five games, Quenneville knew he had to do something. That slump includes an 0-for-5 Monday against Edmonton, including a four-minute third-period advantage.

"We had to change something, no matter who would be changed everybody might think it was a sideways move," Quenneville said Tuesday. "But both units can be effective."

The hope also is the move could spark Kane, who has just 2 goals in the last 20 games.

"It's never fun when you're not scoring goals, that's for sure," Kane said. "For me, I try not to worry about it too much, just try to keep having fun, playing the game you love. Hopefully the things you do will get you out of it, I guess."

Flyers: Rookie Matt Read could get the first chance to replace the injured Jaromir Jagr on Philadelphia's top line, skating alongside Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell.

Read has just 1 goal in his last 11 games, but is second among in the NHL among first-year players with 12 goals.

When Read saw his name alongside Giroux and Hartnell on the board before practice Wednesday, Read said, "I thought Lavi (coach Peter Laviolette) made a spelling error there."

Laviolette said he has no reservations about putting the rookie in a top-line spot against a team the caliber of the Blackhawks.

"Every time we asked him to do something or needed a void filled, he has been able to jump in and contribute," Laviolette said. "So we were looking at it in practice today. I liked it and we'll see."

Shifting Read to the top line meant wholesale changes to the Flyers' other two top lines, as Maxime Talbot and Jakub Voracek skated with center Danny Briere, and a third line featured Brayden Schenn between James van Riemsdyk and Wayne Simmonds. The all-rookie fourth line featuring Sean Couturier centering Zac Rinaldo and Harry Zolnierczyk remained the same.

Who's Hot: Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has goals in two straight games, moving him into a tie for second in the League with 22 goals. … In five games since missing four with a concussion, Giroux has 2 goals and 5 assists.

Injury Report: The Blackhawks will be without forward Marcus Kruger (concussion) and defenseman Steve Montador (upper body) for Thursday game. Forward Daniel Carcillo also is out due to suspension. … The Flyers will be without Jagr, who is out for at least a week with a groin strain.

Stat Pack: The Flyers' eight home wins are tied for the second-fewest in the Eastern Conference, while their 14 road wins are the most in the League.

Puck Drop: It's been a while since the Hawks were in Philadelphia, but the memories of their last trip remain strong.

"I can imagine just being at the hotel, being at the rink, all those things will bring back some pretty cool memories," Toews said. "I'm excited for that. Just being back in that locker room, we’ll have some old stories we can tell. I'm sure the new guys are sick enough about hearing all that stuff. They'll have a couple more days of it, I guess."

Toews said he's even re-watched a few games from the 2010 Stanley Cup Final just as a refresher.

"I downloaded a couple of those last games on iTunes, Games 5 and 6," he said. "And one day we were watching on the plane, a bunch of guys huddled around the seat to watch it on the plane. Even watching those last two games, you know the outcome but it still makes you nervous to watch. A lot of those cool feelings come rushing back."

LIGHTNING (17-18-3) at SENATORS (20-15-5)

Last 10: Tampa Bay 5-4-1; Ottawa 7-2-1.

Team Scope:

Lightning: After seeing its offense run hot and cold for much of the season, Tampa Bay closed out 2011 with three straight wins in which the Lightning scored a combined 14 goals. But that momentum failed to continue into the new year as the Lightning kicked off a three-game Canadian road trip Tuesday night in Toronto.

Against the Maple Leafs, Vincent Lecavalier opened the scoring just 58 seconds into the game. The meeting was a back-and-forth affair as Pavel Kubina's second-period goal tied things at 3-3. But Darryl Boyce replied for the Leafs just 17 seconds after Kubina's equalizer, inspiring Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher to pull starting goaltender Mathieu Garon in favor of Dwayne Roloson. The switch didn't do much good, as the Leafs ran off three more unanswered goals. Toronto's 7-3 win halted the Bolts' three-game win streak and marked the second time in two weeks that the team allowed the opposition to net seven goals.

"I blame myself a bit because I wanted to change (Garon) the goal before and I didn't and I didn't follow my feeling and it wasn't because he was bad on the fourth goal," Boucher said. "It's just I felt it might have been the moment to do so and I didn't do so."

Senators: Coming off a 6-2 home loss to Montreal that was their most lopsided in over two months, the Senators have won three in a row, all in extra time. It started with a 4-3 overtime win over Calgary before the Sens topped the Sabres 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night. They took that streak into the new year when they hosted the Devils on Monday.

Ottawa trailed the Devils 2-0 entering the third period, but as they've done all season, the Senators came alive in the final stanza. Jason Spezza scored early in the third before Erik Condra tied the game with a shorthanded goal 12 minutes later. From there, Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson notched the overtime winner for the second time in three games. Alfredsson's 400th career goal helped Ottawa top the Flames on Friday; he got No. 401 to beat New Jersey. Both goals came from almost identical spots in the left circle.

"It's fun to win at home and come back the way we did," Alfredsson said. "I think it builds character - finding ways to win. We've done a good job. Every night's a battle, you've just got to come in and try to steal as many points as you can and we've been doing that pretty well lately."

Who's Hot: Steven Stamkos has scored six times for the Lightning during a four-game goal-scoring streak that has carried him into the League lead with 27. Martin St. Louis is enjoying an eight-game point streak, including nine points in six games since returning from injury. … For the Senators, defenseman Erik Karlsson has four points in his last three games.

Injury Report: Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund remains on IR following knee surgery while Ryan Shannon (lower body), Victor Hedman (concussion), and Ryan Malone (lower body) are also out. … The Senators' defense will be depleted Thursday. Chris Phillips is expected to sit out with a mild concussion sustained on Monday night. Forwards Peter Regin (shoulder) and Jesse Winchester (concussion) are on IR. The Senators hope defenseman Sergei Gonchar, who missed the last two games with a head injury, will be ready to go.

Stat Pack: Alfredsson isn't the only player in this game who recently reached a major scoring milestone. St. Louis recorded the 500th assist of his career when he set up Stamkos' third goal of the game against Carolina on Saturday. He recorded assist No. 501 in Toronto.

Puck Drop: If Phillips misses the game against the Lightning, as he is expected to, it will be a rare occurrence. The Senators' ironman has missed just two games since the start of the 2006-07 season.

OILERS (16-20-3) AT BLUES (22-12-5)

Last 10: Edmonton 2-8-0, St. Louis 5-3-2

Team Scope:

Edmonton: The Oilers are looking to turn things around after dropping nine games in the month of December. After defeating the Western Conference-leading Blackhawks 4-3 in Chicago on Monday they were edged 4-3 by the Sabres in Buffalo on Tuesday. The game was tied 2-2 after the second period but the Oilers couldn't contain the Sabres in the third.

"We gave Buffalo everything they could handle. It was a winnable game for us," coach Tom Renney said. "We were very passionate, and we really tried to play within our structure. We didn't quit, and that's as important as anything."

Blues: The Blues continue to dominate under the leadership of Ken Hitchcock. With eight wins in the month of December they are fifth in the Western Conference with 49 points. After dropping three games at the end of December the Blues started the new year right with a 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.

"It's January and this is the time when teams take it to another level," forward Chris Stewart said. "We did just that."

Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves in the victory and is 5-0-3 in his last eight starts with a 1.45 goals-against average and .945 save percentage. Halak was happy to end the Blues' three-game skid in which they were outscored 8-3.

"After losing three straight, we had to come up big," Halak said.

Who's Hot: Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Sam Gagner are playing together on the top line for the Oilers and have a combined nine points in two games … T.J. Oshie is tied for the team's lead in goals with Alexander Steen (13), but Oshie has two tallies in his last three games.

Injury Report: The Oilers' Tom Gilbert (knee) and Ryan Whitney (ankle) are day to day, No. 1 draft pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (shoulder) and Alex Plante (concussion) are out indefinitely and Cam Barker (ankle) is out for two months … Ian Cole served his first of a three game suspension on Tuesday, Alex Steen is doubtful with a concussion while Andy McDonald (concussion), Kent Huskins (ankle), Kris Russell (groin), and Ryan Reaves (hip) are on IR for the Blues.

Stat Pack: Edmonton is just 6-3-3 when leading after the first period; their .500 winning percentage is tied with Carolina for the worst in the NHL. … The Blues are 8-0-3 in games in which Oshie scores. … No team makes life easier for its goaltenders than the Blues, who are limiting opponents to a League-low 26.7 shots against per game.

Puck Drop: "We're starting to play with a lot more confidence," Stewart said. "It's beginning to show. We just have to keep working and doing the right things."

STARS (21-16-1) at PREDATORS (21-14-4)

Last 10: Dallas 5-5-0; Nashville 7-3-0

Team Scope:

Stars: Tuesday night's game at American Airlines Center had a little bit of everything … except a Dallas win. Stars defenseman Jordie Benn made his NHL debut, joining brother Jamie Benn in the lineup. The two combined to assist on a first-period goal by Loui Eriksson, and Jamie scored early in the second en route to a 3-point night. Ryder tallied twice, but in the end it wasn't enough to overcome a big offensive effort by the Red Wings, who dealt the Stars a 5-4 defeat.

"A bit of a tough game there," Jamie Benn said. "When you have breakdowns in the D zone and they capitalize, it's never good, but I thought we had some parts of our game that were good, and some that were not good."

Predators: Consecutive shootout wins and a two-goal victory over Calgary on New Year's Day sent Nashville into a three-day break with plenty to feel good about, which now includes the possible return of Weber. Even without him, the Predators weren't hurting for offensive punch in a 5-3 win over the Flames, punctuated by a hat trick from Sergei Kostitsyn, who nearly doubled his goal output for the entire season.

"Coach told me that every game and practice -- to shoot the puck more," Kostitsyn said in the Tennessean. "Maybe I tried to shoot more today. I just have to do it more every game."

Who's Hot: Ryder is red-hot for the Stars, with 8 goals in as many games. Jamie Benn has 3 goals and 10 assists in his last nine games, while Eriksson has 4 goals and 7 assists over the same span. … In addition to Kostitsyn coming off a hat trick, Matt Halischuk has scored in consecutive games for the Predators.

Injury Report: Dallas defenseman Philip Larsen missed Tuesday's game with concussion-like symptoms. Defensemen Stephane Robidas (foot) and Sheldon Souray (ankle) and forward Tomas Vincour (knee) are on injured reserve. … Nashville forward Colin Wilson, who has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury, also skated Tuesday and like Weber is a possibility to play Thursday.

Stat Pack: The Stars went 34-23 on faceoffs against the Red Wings, with Vernon Fiddler going 10-2 and Jamie Benn 14-8 on draws. … Jordin Tootoo assisted on a pair of Predators goals Sunday and has already tied his career high in points with 18 this season.

Puck Drop: "That was a blast, a dream come true," Jordie Benn said after Tuesday's game. "Obviously, you want to win, but I got to play in the NHL with my brother, so that was awesome. You don't really think about (adding offense) going into the game, you just want to keep it simple because it's your first game, but it's always good to contribute. It was awesome."

COYOTES (19-17-4) at KINGS (19-14-7)

Last 10: Phoenix 4-5-1; Los Angeles 6-1-3

Team Scope:

Coyotes: Goaltender Mike Smith returned to action Tuesday after missing two weeks with a groin injury. The Coyotes went 2-4-1 without him, but their losing ways continued in his return.

Smith allowed three goals on 30 shots in a 4-1 road loss to the St. Louis Blues.

"It's always nice to get back, but it's not the outcome we were looking for," Smith said. "We got out-competed tonight. We've got to find ways to win hockey games."

Added coach Dave Tippett, whose team is 0-2-0 against the Blues this season: "We needed to put more will and commitment into the game. They won a lot more of the one-on-one battles than we did. Our execution was slow and poor."

Kings: Offense continues to be a problem -- the Kings are 30th in the NHL at 2.10 goals per game -- but they've found success lately under new coach Darryl Sutter.

The Kings are 4-0-3 in Sutter's seven games. They are coming of a 2-1 shootout loss to the Avalanche on Monday. The Kings have scored 14 goals and allowed 9 goals during that stretch.

"The goalies were on their game tonight," forward Anze Kopitar said following the loss to the Avs. "We had a few good shifts and had some scoring chances, but we just couldn't bury them and it came back to bite us. We had a bunch of 2-on-1s. I had a chance in overtime and I don't know why I didn't shoot it, but I should have put it on net. Maybe something could have happened."

Who's Hot: Coyotes forward Radim Vrbata has 3 goals in his last two games. … In his last seven starts, Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick has allowed more than two goals only once. He has allowed two goals in his last three games.

Injury Report: For Phoenix, Kurt Sauer (post-concussion syndrome), Boyd Gordon (lower body), and Martin Hanzal (face) are all on IR. … Los Angeles will also be without a key attacker after Simon Gagne went out indefinitely on Dec. 27 with an upper-body injury.

Stat Pack: If the Kings finish with the fewest goals in the NHL, it doesn't bode well for their playoff chances. Only one team (Boston in 2009) has made the playoffs with that type of offensive futility since 1989.

Puck Drop: "We're just trying to battle and get everybody to play hard. On the tying goal, (Kyle Clifford) makes a mistake along the wall. It's one of those things where you're just trying to get him to do it right, over and over and over. You just learn from it." -- Sutter, after the Kings' loss to the Avs

BLUE JACKETS (10-23-5) at SHARKS (21-11-4)

LAST 10: Columbus 2-7-1; San Jose 6-1-3

Team Scope:

Blue Jackets: 2011 ended on an awful note for Columbus, which blew a 2-0 third-period lead against Washington on New Year's Eve and lost 4-2, disappointing a sellout crowd of 18,199. It was yet another game in which the Jackets went home with nothing after they were unable to hold a lead.

"We can't dwell on what 2011 left us," goaltender Curtis Sanford told BlueJackets.com. "We can make sure we come prepared to start 2012 off right what's in the past now is in the past.

"We have to keep moving forward and keep on a positive track, and do ourselves a favor and get back into things."

Sharks: San Jose had lost all three meetings with Anaheim this season and looked like it might be on the way to No. 4 when two goals in 27 seconds late in the second period turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. Brad Winchester and Benn Ferriero scored against Jonas Hiller, who had been 5-0-0 in his last five starts against the Sharks.

"We realized it's very, very difficult to score on this guy," said captain Joe Thornton, whose third-period blast turned into a rebound goal by Joe Pavelski in the third period. "That first one by him got us some confidence. I don't know if it was 30 seconds after but we bang another one in. Huge momentum swing for us."

Who's Hot: Columbus captain Rick Nash has three points in his last two games and leads the team with 12 goals and 27 points. … Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi allowed three goals in this week's road wins at Vancouver and San Jose, and is 3-1-1 while allowing just 10 goals in his last five starts.

Injury Report: The Jackets are without defenseman James Wisniewski (broken ankle). Mark Methot is day-to-day with an ankle injury. Kristian Huselius (groin) and Radek Martinek (concussion) are on IR. … For San Jose, Jose's Colin White (lower body), Martin Havlat (left hamstring surgery) and Jim Vandermeer (upper body) are on injured reserve.

Stat Pack: HP Pavilion has never been a pleasant place for the Jackets to visit. The Sharks are 17-1-2 all-time against the Blue Jackets at the Shark Tank. … Nash has six goals in his last five games at San Jose, including a hat trick last season. … Columbus has been outscored 52-26 in the third period this season.

Puck Drop: With the playoff realistically a near-impossibility, the Blue Jackets figure to give extended auditions to 2009 first-round pick John Moore, a defenseman, and 2010 first-rounder Ryan Johansen, a center. Johansen has been playing on the top line with Nash and Jeff Carter, while Moore has been getting more playing time -- a situation that should continue with Wisniewski out for at least another month.

"Life's good on the first line," a smiling Johansen told BlueJackets.com. "Carter and Nash are two of the elite players in this League, and they've proved that to people over the years. For me, being a 19-year-old rookie and not even halfway through my first season yet, to be playing with those two is pretty special.

Moore scored against Washington but knows his primary job is still to help keep the puck out of his own team's net

Moore wants to ensure this opportunity becomes permanent by playing a complete game and putting his own zone first.

"It's definitely an opportunity, but you've got to be confident out there and can't second-guess yourself," he said. "Especially going on the road here, the other team will have last change and be able to control the matchups.

What if Alan Eagleson hadnt outright lied to Orr about the offer the Bruins were prepared to give him including 20 ownership of the team and steered him to the Blackhawks?

What if the NHL hadnt locked out the players in 1994-95 and followed up on the momentum of the amazing 1994 Playoffs?
